Robert Samuel Massie, 63, of Ruther Glen, Virginia passed away on July 1st after his long brave battle against leukemia. Robert, affectionately known as Bobby or Rob, was born and raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and spent several of his teen years in Connecticut. He relocated back to NJ, where he spent most of his adult life, until relocating to Ruther Glen, where he enjoyed many wonderful years.
He was a remarkable man whose warmth, generosity, and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a gift for storytelling, a passion for cooking that brought joy to many, and he truly enjoyed spending time fishing. His love for life and the people around him was evident in everything he did.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emmett Massie and Hilda Massie (nee Maxwell); his beloved wife, Barbara Cooper-Massie, with whom he shared many cherished years of marriage; his brother Kenneth Massie and his sister Karen Massie.
Robert is survived by his stepson, Herbert McClary; his stepdaughter, Dana Pankey, and her husband, John Pankey; his treasured grandson, Jaxson Pankey; his brothers Emmett ( Joyce) Massie and Raymond (Winona) Massie; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
The family is deeply grateful to Cleveland Clinic, Florida, and UM Miami Sylvester Comprehensive cancer center for their exceptional care and support, Dr Holtzman, and the Bone Marrow team.
Special thanks:
Dana (John) Pankey, Emmett (Joyce) Massie, Raymond (Winona) Massie and Alex (Preval) Pierre. We are deeply grateful to Robert's kind neighbor, Devin Blowes, that watched over his house and helped him while he was in Florida.
